PENALTY LENGTHS
Misconduct - 10 minutes in length with game ejection
Major - 5 minutes in length with game ejection
Minor - 30 seconds in length or until scored upon
Penalty Shot – At discretion of Official
MAJOR PENALTIES & MISCONDUCTS
Fighting - Any attempt to throw a punch towards another player with the intent to harm will be
deemed fighting and will result in a major penalty with a game ejection. Suspensions may also
occur if deemed necessary by the Board of Governors.
Slash with intent to injure - Any slash which is deemed harmful or excessive with the intent to
harm will be a major penalty with a game ejection. Suspensions may also occur if deemed
necessary by the Board of Governors.
Unsportsmanlike Conduct (Verbal Assault) - Verbally assaulting a referee will result in a major
penalty and game ejection.
MINOR PENALTIES
Slashing - Slashing is the act of swinging a stick towards an opponent whether contact is made
or not. Non-aggressive stick contact will not be called. Any forceful or powerful chop with the
stick on an opponent’s body, stick or near the hands that is not an attempt to play the ball will be
called minor penalty.
High Sticking (Attempt) - The act of a player making an attempt to make contact with another player or the
ball above the players chest/shoulders (Bar Height).
[Two high sticking calls on one player will result in a minor penalty, 3 Calls on a TEAM will result in a minor as well]
High Sticking (Contact with player) Contact with a player will result in an immediate minor penalty.
Diving (In an attempt to steal or block a shot) – Any attempt to dive or slide to steal a ball or block a shot will result in a minor penalty, or penalty shot at the discretion of the official.
Tripping - Two tripping calls will result in a minor penalty.
Rough Play - Excessive rough play near corners and walls will result in a change of possession in favor of
the individual deemed by the referees.
CHANGE OF POSSESSION
Occupying Goalies Crease - Players cannot occupy the goalies crease for more than 3 seconds
during play when the ball is not in play in the crease.
Out of Play – Change of possession (ceiling, backboard, out of play)
High Sticking - High sticking without contact to a player will result in a change of possession. If
contact with a player is made, a minor penalty will be assessed.
Tripping - Tripping an opponent will result in a change of possession.
Rough Play - Excessive rough play near corners and walls will result in a change of possession in favor of
the individual deemed by the referees.
